Support Legistlative Change at Power Shift '09
The Energy Action Coalition is organizing Power Shift 2009 at Oberlin College. Founded in June 2004 by youth climate leaders, the Energy Action Coalition unites a diversity of organizations in an alliance that supports and strengthens the student and youth clean and just energy movement in North America. The 36 active and 14 supporting partners of Energy Action Coalition work together to leverage their collective power and create change for a clean, efficient, just and renewable energy future.
The EAC is addressing climate change by winning clean energy victories at the local, state, national, and international level - all while growing and strengthening the clean energy movement among young people from all walks of life in the United States and Canada.

International Day of Climate Action
Join Greenpeace, 1Sky, Progress Ohio, Simply Living's Peak Oil/Global Warming Learning Group, Ohio Student Environmental Coalition, Green Drinks, SEIU Local 1, and UFCW 1059 for a rally at the Statehouse of Ohio, to start at 3:50pm. We will have a variety of speakers and actions you can take on this important day. Confirmed speakers thus far are Harvey Wasserman, Bob Fitrakis, and Professor Joel Wainwright of OSU. There will also be a video testimony station where you can in about 30 seconds explain why climate change is important to you, also letter writing station to President Obama asking our President to be a leader in Copenhagen, where just 44 days after our rally the world will be creating a new international treaty to address climate change. For those who enjoy pedal power we are inviting a cycling mobilization to the Statehouse as well. We plan to conclude our activities about 5:30pm. Local band "The Town Monster" will preform for us at the rally, and we will end the event with a group photo displaying the number 350.
Also 2 nights before our rally Green Drinks is hosting a panel discussion with Professor Jason Box from OSU, Bryan McGannon from Repower America, and Deb Steele from Greenpeace to discuss climate change and what we are all working on to help solve it. The discussion will be from 6 to 8pm Thursday Oct 22end at Barrio Tapas Lounge, 185 N. High St., Columbus, OH, (614) 220-9141.
Central Ohio is in the heart of the heart of it all, help us send a message to our leaders that this is the year to take strong science based solutions towards addressing climate change.

It's a Green Day at The DEC
Things are greening up in Dublin with a day of events for green-minded residents and business owners. We invite you to listen to green experts, network with other environmentally conscious folks and enjoy lunch courtesy of BW3s. The day of green events will be held at the Dublin Entrepreneurial Center (corner of Industrial Parkway and Eiterman Road) Thursday, October 15th, starting at 9:00 a.m. and going till 5:00 p.m. Interested individuals need to register on the calendar at http://meetup.com/techlifecolumbus to attend. You don’t have to be green to come to our jelly at The DEC. Whether you are a business owner, independent worker or just want a change of pace from the office, you are invited to come co-work at our “Green Jelly”, starting at 9:00 am – 5:00 pm on the 4th floor. During our green day, be sure to bring your laptop taking advantage of our common space and free wi-fi. Remember your business cards because you’ll enjoy networking opportunities too. The Jelly at The DEC offers the chance to settle in and do some work in-between each green event you choose to attend.
Electronic waste can contain hazardous materials and proper disposal is important. To help you dispose of your e-waste, we are offering a one day , “E-Waste Disposal” here at The DEC. Bring your e-waste with you since Jesse Roberts from Possitivitygreen will be here to answer your questions and handle your collections. E-waste includes computers, CRTs, laptops, cameras, hand-held games, entertainment electronics and mobile phones. They can even destroy the contents of your hard drive if desired. Disposal is completely free except for CRTs which require a payment of $15 to handle.
The City of Dublin will be kicking the day off with their feature, “Our Wild Neighbors”. Geared towards residents and environmentally friendly folks, the event starts at 9:30 a.m. and goes for one hour. Michelle Migliore, Nature Education Coordinator for the City of Dublin will share about our wild neighbors and why they choose to live in suburban settings. You'll also discover what the City of Dublin does to encourage healthy ecosystems and the challenges involved.
One of the best energy sources comes from the sun and we’d like you to explore how to convert the sun to solar energy in our workshop, “From Sun to Solar Success Using Tax Incentives” starting at 11:00 am and running for one half hour. Join Eric Zimmer, CEO of Tipping Point Renewable Energy as he shares what solar technology offers your home and business, and how to take advantage of the new Government Tax Credit incentives.
Lunch is on the house during our “Successful Workplace Recycling” event! BW3s on Avery Road is providing wings, wings and more wings! We’ll also have energy water courtesy of Avitae, a Dublin based product. Lunch will be available for a half hour starting at 11:30 am. At noon, you we’ll explore some key partners in local recycling efforts, like SWACO, Positivity and the Waste Not Center. Michelle Crandall will lead us in a case study of how the City of Dublin initiated recycling with its employees. Crandall will walk you through examples of how to get started, what resources can be helpful and how to engage employees to make it successful.
Increase your knowledge of energy efficiency initiatives, tips to get started saving and programs that can reward you in the process. Zack Griffin, principal of Evolved Energy Solutions, will host the discussion in “Your ROI for Efficient Energy Solutions” focusing on lighting design and related technology as well as rebates and incentives for energy conservation measures through the federal and state government. The session starts at 1:30 pm and runs for one half hour.
Finish off the day by learning about exciting new opportunities to “Grow Your Green Business and Green IQ”. Representatives of The Dublin Entrepreneurial Center (The DEC) will share new opportunities to be part of the Green Incubator located at The DEC. Columbus State’s Dave Watts and Tracy LaMar-Nickoli will share new online, green classes that help people start a green focused business, get necessary certifications and gain the information they need to be successful. Participants are encouraged to join our green forum after the brief presentations to discuss the benefits and challenges of having a green business.
